Carolynn Abruzzo ~ Director
Carolynn Abruzzo has been in education for over 15 years. She graduated from Illinois State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. After teaching Math and Science in middle school for almost nine years, she made the decision to stay home with her then two children. When her oldest daughter started school, she became very involved with the PTO and community events. After a few years she began subbing in the elementary schools and then worked as a paraprofessional and long-term sub for a few years. As the Director of KCCC, she strives to continue upholding the strong community and educational values that it has encouraged and thrived on since 1986. She currently resides in Sugar Grove with her husband, their three children and their cat, Wrigley. His name might be an indicator that they are big Cubs fans! All of her children are very involved in travel and school sports. When she is not traveling to a game, she likes to spend time with family and friends.
Cathy Kovach ~ Administrative Assistant/Music Teacher
Cathy Kovach has been a member of the KCCC family since August of 2002, originally hired as the Administrative Assistant and later becoming one of the Preschool Teachers. She studied Music Education at Illinois State University and specialized in violin. She is the mother of three boys and lives right in Kaneville! Her two younger boys attended KCCC in the Daycare and Preschool/Pre-K programs. Among her many “hats”, Cathy is a volunteer of the Kaneville Fire Protection District as a certified EMT and CPR/First Aid Instructor. She also continues her music career as a violin instructor as well as the Asst. Director of the Kaneland Youth Orchestra.
Michelle Rissman ~ Lead Teacher
We have had the pleasure of having Michelle with KCCC for over 23 years as a Lead Teacher. She grew up in Kaneville and currently resides there. Her ties to this community are strong. She studied Early Childhood Education at Waubonsee Community College where she discovered that working with Preschool age children was her calling. While at WCC, she also earned specialized certificates of achievement in Basic Nurse Assistant Training, Early Childhood Aide, and Infant and Toddler Care. Michelle’s words: “It has been such a wonderful experience to work at a loving and caring daycare center. I have been truly blessed to be a part of it and such an outstanding community.” In her spare time, Michelle enjoys cross-stitching, taking care of her yard, and playing with her 12 year old Chihuahua named Skippy.
Beth Sheehan ~ Lead Teacher
Beth Sheehan has been with KCCC in the Preschool/PreK classroom for over five years first as an Assistant Teacher and currently as one of our Lead Teachers. She has a B.A. in Public Relations from Loras College and a B.S. in Special Education from N.I.U. She feels that working with preschool children is truly a rewarding experience. She enjoys watching the students develop socially and academically throughout the school year. “It is amazing!” Both of her children are “alumni” of KCCC, so it has been fun for her to be part of this program as both a parent and a teacher. She currently resides in Sugar Grove with her husband and their two daughters.
Stephanie LeBlanc ~Lead Teacher
Stephanie comes to KCCC with over 14 years of experience in a preschool classroom drawn to us for our hometown feel and commitment to the social, emotional, and educational growth of every single child enrolled. As a PreK teacher, new to us but not to teaching this crucial age group, she has been added to our already talented staff to open a second PreK classroom due to our increased enrollment. She studied Early Childhood Education at Arizona State University where she earned her B.A. in Education. She earned her ESL endorsement from National Louis University in 2008. Stephanie is passionate about early childhood education and nurturing each student to extend their knowledge base. She loves seeing the children grow and learn more than anything. Only 15 minutes from KCCC, Stephanie lives nearby with her dog, Hencie,
her furry baby.
Michelle Wegesin ~Lead Teacher (Summer)
Michelle is new to KCCC as the Lead Teacher in the Beginnning Learners Daycare for the summer 0f 2016, however, she has been in education and childcare for over seven years since earning a Masters of Arts in Multi-Categorical Special Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. She is the mother of three adorable and smart little girls, ages 4, 2 1/2, and 1 and currently resides with her girls and her husband in the same community she grew up. Michelle is very community oriented and deeply understands the importance of it. Her roles as a teacher, caregiver, and mother make Michelle a great fit for KCCC! Michelle is looking forward to coordinating and leading our 2017 Summer Camp programs.
Char Berens ~ Assistant Teacher
Char Berens has worked at KCCC for three years in both the Daycare and Preschool/Pre-K classrooms. She spent her first two years in college as an Elementary Education Major and proceeded to graduate from Illinois State University with a B.S. in Geography. She previously worked at Walgreen Co. as a Project Manager in their Strategy Development Department and then eventually stepped out of the corporate world to be at home with her children. She has lived in Sugar Grove for 14 years with her husband and their three children. She has always enjoyed working with children and is honored to be a part of the early building blocks of their educational journey.
Jeanette Cruz ~ Assistant Teacher
Jeanette Cruz is a happily married mother of two. Her daughter is a Certified Nursing Assistant in Oswego, and her son recently graduated from Kaneland High School and Originally from New York, she lived in San Antonio Texas for over 10 years prior to happily settling in her present location of Sugar Grove. Jeanette loves working with children creating arts and crafts as well as being a handy woman at home with her tools planning her next home project. She loves the children at KCCC and they love her back just as much. It wouldn’t be a surprise to find her getting messy in the classroom, providing a big hug for a boo boo, or running around with the children on a playground. Jeanette loves to crochet and knit in her spare time. She also enjoys walking for exercise in the spring and summer time. She is an avid reader. Jeanette is a member of her local church choir and volunteers as a homebound Eucharistic Minister.
Emily Tickle ~ Assistant Teacher (Summer)
As a recent Kaneland High School graduate, Emily is going to pursue pediatric nursing in college at Indiana State University. Her ability to work with and nurture children is evident as an Assistant Teacher here at KCCC for the summer. Emily was a leader in a program in her high school that allowed her to be involved with the disabled students both physically and mentally who also attended school with her. She has experience with physically disabled students who were in wheelchairs or braces for their legs as well as students with Autism, Asperger’s, and Down’s syndrome.She has taken her skills of caring for students and developing activities in the high school and converted them to our Beginning Learners Daycare as well as our School Age Care students for the summer. She currently resides in Kaneville with her parents and her brother.
Jessica O’Donnell ~ Assistant Teacher
Jessica is currently a student a Waubonsee Community College studying Early Childhood Education. As a recent graduate from Kaneland High School, she has already gained some valuable experience through their early childhood class which took place in their school daycare where she worked every day in between classes. She’s a natural! More than anything, “she loves kids and wants to make sure they are happy.” Jessica sees herself as a future leader and teacher at KCCC. We also see her as a natural, great fit currently as well as in the future. Jessica currently resides in Elburn with her parents, two brothers and her Westie Terrier named Chewie.
